K-VILLE'S TOP 50 K-POP SONGS CHART BECOMES A TOP 60 CHART!
Hello to all the K-Villain's reading this! It must come as a surprise to you that our huge Top 50 Chart has just become a massive Top 60 Chart. Here is why we decided to make the change. Hopefully it will satisfy any concerns you have.
K-POP IS GROWING. WE NEED MORE ROOM.
In case you haven't noticed, K-Pop is growing at an extremely fast rate worldwide. The influence of groups such as BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE, GOT7 (and so much more) has pushed K-Pop into the homes of millions outside of Korea. With more money being pumped into the industry, this means more groups and musicians are debuting too.
This sudden influx of boy groups, girl groups and solo artists has made it near impossible to fit every single great song onto the Top 50 Chart. Veterans of the industry are even finding it hard to land a position in the Top 50 due to the sheer amount of great new songs from rookie groups. While the Top 50 Chart is fair, we feel it just doesn't do justice to this genre of music anymore. By expanding it, we expand peoples view of K-Pop, their knowledge of musicians in this industry, and the chance that a song can grow on them after a while.
POSITIVE ASPECTS OF THE CHANGE
- Greater exposure to underrated groups and under-appreciated veterans of K-Pop.
- A higher chance that your favourite song will be in the chart each and every week.
- More variety of musicians and styles of music.
- Provides the opportunity to allow underrated songs to grow on people.
- Groups with larger fandoms will not always push out recent/unknown groups from the chart.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF THE CHANGE
- The chart is now up to 3 minutes longer than usual.
- The prestige of making the Top 50 (a now hard achievement to do) may not be seen as important.
WILL THIS IMPACT THE YEAR-END TOP 100 CHART?
The answer to this is NO. In order to preserve the original point-scoring system (and keep it fair for songs that only could make it onto a Top 50 Chart), I have made this rule: Only songs that make it into the Top 50 receive points.
Songs ranked from #51 to #60 will receive no points, as that would impact how many points each other song receives. We need to maintain the original point-scoring system for this year or else the points would be inconsistent.
In 2018, all songs will receive points. #60 = 1 points, #1 = 60 points. This change will go into effect on the first chart in January next year.
SO, DO YOU LIKE THIS CHANGE?
Let us know in the comments section on YouTube and Facebook whether or not you think this change is for the better. We here at K-Ville are happy with the change, but we value the opinion of our fans even more.
